The University of Worcester's Department of Arts, Humanities and Social
Sciences
is seeking to appoint an IT technician to create a searchable on-line
database
derived from the XML mark-up of a series of Victorian play texts as part
of the
Digitisation of Lacy’s Acting Edition AHRC-funded project.  The selected
candidate will be required to generate a workable database of plays in
consultation with the project team and mount this on the project website
so that
it is accessible to external users.  The technician should also be able
to add
features to the project website, as required.  The team has used the
Oxygen XML
editor package to create the e-texts that will form the database.

This is a two-year project to scan and make available a range of plays
from the
100 volumes held in the Birmingham Central Library.  The project will
create
e-texts of the plays in pdf format and mount these on a project website
for
general academic and scholarly use.  It will also create a database of a
smaller
selection of plays, marked up for academic research and searchable
around a
series of key terms and identifiers, based on the TEI-lite system in
XML.  The
project is run by Dr. Richard Pearson, the project director, assisted by
a
postdoctoral researcher, Dr. Kate Mattacks.  The IT technician will work
closely
with Dr. Pearson and Dr. Mattacks to implement the practices devised by
the
project, and will attend editorial board meetings to ensure quality of
the
project and database functionality.

Salary:	£10.80 per hour
Hours:	Up to 200 hours to project completion
